Always keep a variety of canned goods in your pantry. Canned corn, both creamed and whole kernel, is a particularly tasty dish by itself. So too are green beans. All you have to do is drain the water, add a bit of butter, and you have a side dish on the table in less time that it would take you to cook a TV dinner.

It is a good idea for you to make sure that you do not overcook vegetables because that will lead to them losing the majority of their important nutrients. Another reason not to overcook them is because they can get very mushy, which would make them unappealing to eat.

If you are making a sauce and you need to sweeten the flavor of it you can used mashed carrots or unsweetened applesauce instead of adding sugar. This is especially helpful for diabetics or anyone else that is trying to moderate the amount of sugar in their daily diets.

Have fun with flavors and spices and don't be afraid to put more seasonings into your cooking. Many cooks lightly season their food, leaving it tasting bland. It is okay to experiment with different amounts of salt and spices until you find a delicious tasting blend. Many chefs recommend adding almost twice as much as you would initially considering using, so keep it interesting and flavorful by putting in just a little bit more.

Tin foil is indispensable for campfire cooking! You can make hobo meals either at the campsite or before you ever leave home. Just lay a serving of your meat of choice in the middle of a large square of aluminum foil. Garnish it with some cubed potatoes, onions, celery or whatever vegetables you like. Fold the tinfoil around the packet of food and cook it right on the coals!

When you are cooking pasta the best way to do so is to rely on using at least one gallon of water for every pound of pasta. If you do not use enough water and a pot that is big enough the pasta will surely stick and become starchy when cooking.

To peel ginger without damaging it, use a teaspoon! Ginger is soft enough to easily be peeled with a small spoon. Just turn the spoon so that the concave side is facing the ginger, and then start peeling. You'll get much better results than you would with a knife or a peeler.

When you are seasoning meat and fish, make sure you season it evenly. You should always sprinkle the herbs and spices. This will ensure that they do not clump in one area. You want your meat and fish to taste the very same from the first to last bite.
